When you think of graphic designers, you might envision hipsters dressed in black, with artsy tattoos and cool boots, right? Well, sorry to disappoint, but I have no ink, wear comfy sneakers, and drive a minivan. I married my high school sweetheart, and we have two amazing boys. We also have a couple of dogs, a cat, an ever changing number of fish, and even an occasional frog or turtle, depending on the season.
When I was a kid, I wanted nothing more than to draw X-Men comics, and while I may not have ended up working for Marvel, I am fortunate to be able to be creative every day. It really is true that if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work day in your life.
Like many Northern Virginia natives, I’m a graduate of Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!), and cheer on the home teams. I’ve been active in our community, providing graphic design services to select non-profits, and schools. On the weekends, you will probably find me scrounging around flea markets or tinkering in the wood shop. I am a pop culture fanatic and nostalgia junkie, with an intense love of vintage movie posters and packaging. A few years ago, I self-published Cool & Collected, a magazine for collectors, that was funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign.
My wife and I run several websites including Funology and The District, which has given us plenty of insight into what goes into running and maintaining a popular internet destination.
I have owned my own business for over 25 years and, in that time, have collaborated with some amazing people. Working for myself (and omitting a DC-area commute) has allowed me many wonderful opportunities, and I am very fortunate to love what I do (AND THE PEOPLE I GET TO DO IT WITH!). Being a “solopreneur” has taught me the ins and outs of running a business from the lowest valleys to the highest peaks, and a good day is one that sees me helping someone else achieve their dreams of success.
If you would like to talk about an upcoming project for your business, drop me a line.
